The rani-pink ground of this Chanderi is carried in its silk warp, which gives the pink a warmth and depth that pure cotton cannot achieve — it glows rather than simply tints. The cotton weft grounds it, keeping the fabric cool and breathable despite the intensity of the colour. Over this luminous ground, a dense all-over batik resist floral unfolds — bold, full-faced flower heads and rounded leaves in blush-ivory resist, so tightly packed the body reads as rich and jewel-like from a distance. Up close, the wax resist edges are soft and slightly irregular, the blush ivory carrying a trace of the silk-cotton ground through it. The border is a strong geometric chevron zigzag in deep rose and ivory — sharp and graphic, the perfect frame for so much floral abundance. The antique gold zari selvedge gleams where it meets the silk warp. A sari that is unapologetically, luminously, gloriously pink.
